How to choose between them
- Size first. Check that the size you need is in stock at that shop, not just listed. Our stick pages show the sizes in stock when the shop shows them.
- Low carbon is fine. Junior sticks in our list with a stated carbon content have 0% to 10%. See what carbon percentage means.
- Mid bow. A standard or mid bow is the usual all-round choice at this age. See bow types.
- Watch sale prices. Junior sticks often drop in price at the end of a season, and some sticks above R1,000 dip under it.
Questions parents ask
What size stick does a U13 player need?
Most 11 and 12 year olds are about 143–155 cm tall, which is a 34" or 35" stick on the Grays SA chart. Smaller players may need 32" or 33", and tall ones 36" or a 36.5" senior length.
Is a R1,000 stick much better than a R400 stick for a U13?
Not always. The main differences are usually material (wood or composite) and a little carbon. The right length matters more than the price for a junior.
How much carbon should a U13 stick have?
Junior sticks in our list with a stated carbon content mostly have 0% to 10%. Low carbon gives more feel and is more forgiving for players still learning.
